Just wondering if Iridium spark plugs are worth the extra money.

After reading some of the hype on the NGK website you would think that EVERYBODY should have a set of these in their vehicle....whether it is autobahn inspired or your Saturday grocery getter!

Anybody have an opinion or experience?

I am a big believer of installing only the factory plugs.

IMHO many times the "claims for more power & economy are true but easily manipulated. How do you ask? They take out old worn plugs & install new then make toe comparison. They're not comparing new vs. new.

My little Toyota Rav4 came with Iridiums, supposedly good for 100k, though I'll probably chang 'em around 80k.

They're almost as expensive as Merc Opti plugs!

sounds more like marketing hype to me. doubt you will see a lick of difference other than the price you pay over stock factory plugs...

from what ive seen on friends cars and been told, they're better. personnally, i'd stick with factory because of heat range specs. mine comes factory w/ double platinum so im happy, even though they aint no better than single platinum.

I dont know all the variable involved but my buddy has a same yr/model truck as I do. I had to special order my NGK Iridium's (all the locals were trying to push double plat). I replaced mine and saw my gas mileage increase slightly. My buddy replaced his with the double plats they sold him at one of the local stores and went from 16mpg to around 14.

Only difference I know is that he also added a K&N air filter but I cant imagine that caused the difference.

Hey Fish Hawk, I gotta have a set of those 200 dollar spark plugs!

They will look sooooo fine in my 92 truck sitting in front of my sway-back 1985 single-wide!! grin

Should add a lot of "class" to my trailer park! breakdance
