Ain't no black crappie in Granger. Those are all male white crappie that turned a black color because of their testasterone levels elevating. That is an indicator that the spawn is coming soon.
Nice catch BTW!

Wow DBman, That sure sounded like an expert opinion to me. I'm impressed....By the way, those slabs look a little thin to me. I sure hope we see some thicker crappie on Granger this season.

Incorrect statement. I was fishing with THE LAKE EXPERT last summer. He and I both caught a black crappie on the north end of the lake by the old bridge. Verified each fish by counting the dorsal spines one had 7 the other had 8, both were released.

Well here we have yet another expert opinion. Snuffer I thought you were spending your time up north on the metro lakes. So who's this "Lake Expert" you were fishing with last summer? Is this person also known as "Granger King Of The Lake" ????? Good to hear from you Snuffer.

Granger King of the Lake = DBMAN?

At any given weight, a black crappie tends to be shorter lengthwise and thicker top to bottom than a white crappie. The spine count on the dorsal fin (the ones that will stick you) is different, a black crappie has 7-8 while a white crappie has 5-6. Black crappie tend to be more speckled while white crappie usually have distinct dark bars.

Both black and white crappie will turn dark (almost totally black in clear water) during spawning season while the females will be milky to silvery white.
