Got on the water about 9:30am. Looked for shad on the depth finder being broken up like the big boys tell us to do. Found lots of shad in 30-45 ft. of water but nothing seemed to be bothering them. Tried drifting but the wind was to high. Finally went up by the wind sock and got into the creek channel by the pump station and caught 5 blues on shad. biggest about 4 pounds and the smallest about one pound. missed about 4 bites. No birds feeding anywhere on the lake. They were all on the bank or floating on the water. Someone has a S@#t load of jugs close to the island by the 309 flats! They should be killing them in that area. Had fun anyway maybe next time I'll get into them like the big boys do!! Good luck!!! Craig

Windsock is close to the South side of the dam. There is a windsock like they use at airports on a point about 2-3 hundred yards from the dam.

does it mark a hump ?.....question for those that know......from fishermans point to the 309 flats.....do you need to watch for stumps ?.......also, is te 309 stumpy or are there things there to watch out for?

S.R.2,
The windsock is on the bank. There is a long ridge with several humps that runs parallel with the dam from the windsock point. You will see it on any R.C. lake map. No stumps that I've seen in several years but watch your depth finder when running along the flats. Several areas can be out of the water when lake is low. The 309 flats are not stumpy. Lots of vegetation in the last couple of years in the summer. The flats are a good place to look for hybrids, sandbass and catfish this spring and early summer. Usually in the spring you will find a "boat show" to let you know where schools of fish are working on the flats. If you don't mind the occassional crowding by other boats then blend right in. Good luck.

What Steve said. The thing to watch on the 309 flats are there is a old road bed I think it may be the original 309 road but not sure. This will be very dangerous when the water is low like it is now. You will think your in about 4-5 feet of water and the road bed rises up and it becomes VERY shallow so be careful. I've seen some big cats caught next to that road bed. I bet there is some monster yellow cats that live in those cracks and holes in that road bed!! Good luck!! Craig
