What do you boys make of the new pumping station being put in on Fork? I was looking at buying some property and retiring some day...maybe never now, in your great state. I have heard everything from "It won't affect levels" to "they will pump it dry". Is there anyone on the board that actually knows the facts? This is a big decision for me and I would really appreciate some factual comments.

I live on Lake Fork and I scanned the local newspaper article from a meeting we had with Dallas and others. It gives all the good and bad news. I'll be happy to send you the article via email and you can decide.

All the folks in our neighborhood try to look at the bright side. I retired here 4 years ago knowing what "could " happen and I have not looked back. Realtors are obligated to tell prospective buyers and that has not slowed down the sale of homes here. In fact, while most places have decreased in values, our home values have increased. So I don't think it has effected property values or our decision to move here.

Best fishing I ever experienced on Fork was during the drought at its peak.

So many more jig targets...so easy to see the well defined creek channels...

They claim they aren't going to pump it down so far...eh...who really knows. Time will tell, I would really like to see the lake 5+ feet low for fishing purposes...not so much business.

That is a great place to live on this lake. We bought in 2005. I was still working and had to commute to Farmers Branch, just north of Dallas, 2 - 3 days a week. So we bought on the North end of the lake, which made it closer for my commute. While it was closer, it was still 96 miles to my office one way. So I'd leave at 4:15 to beat the traffic. I retired last month and it is so nice to not make that drive any more.

We almost bought a house just across from the minow bucket on Hwy. 154, which would have put me closer to the better fishing. But I don't have any regrets - we have great neighbors and we are sort of hidden back off Hwy. 19, so all in all, I'm real happy. It takes me about 15 - 20 minutes to get to Glade, depending on how choppy the water is, but there are lots of great fishing closer.

Can anyone give a good reason why they should not pump water from Fork?

They need to put a bigger pump so I can water my yard every day and wash my truck 3 time a week. I hate water restrictions I want a green yard.

Doesn't matter what reasons are given or not... Dallas bought the rights to the water and the SRA is in the water selling business. As it was pointed out by an SRA employee.. They built a lake to sell the water, everything else is a bonus.
However, you will find a lot of local folks who are opposed to lakes being built and then the water being pumped to DFW for yards to stay green. I've also noticed that a lot of folks up there seem to think that the streets,driveways and sidewalks will also grow if they are watered enough...

I guess you run that risk on any lake that is not a power plant lake. If Dallas would take the best bass fishing lake in the country and drain it, there would be an uprising...I hope. I'm buyin....Glade Creek here I come!

I hate hearing that on the pump station. We fish Lake Granger and they put a pump station on it for Williamson County. We are in a extreme drought and the lake now has some boat ramps closed from lack of water. The last time I seen the lake this dry was when they were filling it up in the early 80's. I know people need water, but it sure does hurt the fishing! I'm not really for it, but they need to put more dams on these rivers so you just don't tax one lake to death with pumping. If we don't get rain soon, I hate to see the Granger in July and August.

I agree. Lakes are built to hold water for us to use. Fishing in them is just a bonus. DFW is known as the water hogs of the state. If people would only water their lawn when needed it woudl not be bad. But some think they need to water it 7 days a week.
