Take a piece of fishing line with a very small piece of bacon balled up and tied to it, with a small weight a few inches above and head down to your nearest creek.

The bacon on a string works good and is fun.
Another way is to hit the bar ditches with a long handled small mesh net and a bucket. Any time of year is good but right now through april is great.

On a full moon warm night find a slough with water about 3-10 inches and take a flash light and a 5 gallon bucket. If the soil is right in the slough you can pick them up with your hands. I use to catch them for my fish I had in a tank while studing them back in the 90's. The fish wiped them out.

Of course only one from Louisiana would know you catch a whole sack full, throw them in some boilin' water with a little Zatarain's and Tony C's, with some corn and taters and have yourself a meal! Oh and perhaps a German soda pop or two. Yee-haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

We use to use the minnow seign back in Kansas. We would find us a shallow creek and usually there would be hundreds of crawdad holes on the creek bottom. We would stomp and bang the 2 end poles of the seign on the creek bed. The crawdads would come out of there holes and would usually end up in our net. 1 pass thru a good spot would catch us several doz. crawdads.

Most people around here use a small holed net in the ditches as mentioned above. Good luck finding standing water in Texas right now though.

grab em behind the head!

Trust your own instinct. Your mistakes might as well be your own, instead of someone elses.

Used to catch 'em with bacon in the creeks by our house when I was a kid. Then we would put them in an "arena" we created from rocks, and watch them fight each other. Good fun!! The more red the claw, the meaner they were.
