There is only a cost if you put a canoe or kayak in there I think. It is only $2 or $3. I heard it might have changed to $5, not sure though. Should not cost anything if you are fishing from the bank.

actually its a $3 fee to fish from the bank and a $5 fee to launch there. Fishing has been good all up and down that river i myself caught my limit of sandies. If you wanna fish at the spillway just have to be there early cause it gets really pack there. Warden been busy visting the place often cause of people crossing over the DO NOT ENTER cables. I also heard rumors of the oil drillers who own that gravel are getting tired of people walking that road.

Thanks for verifying. I thought I was probably off a little but knew you had to pay something. I was gonna try and get the canoe in there this weekend but the wind looks like it may be blowing to hard. May have to fish the bank.

vance's camp. great place for crappie, sandies, catfish, lmb, gars. only canoes and kayaks can get n there easily. if you have 4x4 and small fishing boat you can launch ;it'll work but the ramp is just chunks of concrete. once you get a boat in the creek go up to the dam and tie up to the cables and cast out with jigs tipped with minnows. sounds funny but caught limits that way down there since 1986 . i try chartruse or red/wht maribou jigs then the green curly tail jigs with metal flake. becareful of using shad,.... catch a 30lbr yellow cat once.

If I'm lucky I'll die with a 7' spinning rod in my hand.

How deep is it the cables you tie to. Can you just get some hip waders and go to town? Also do you know of any good wholes down stream, I would think that the spillway is not the only place to get action.

probably do not want to drive to the spillway directly you will be ticketed for fishing there. You normally have to access it from walking the river down through the cow pasture or taking a boat up stream. Best way to get to the river/parking would be...

-Take take 121 south to 35n head north to loop 820.
-Go west bound and exit azle ave and go right.
-First light will be boat club rd, take another right there.
-Go all the way down, past all the shopping centers and ymca etc..
-Take a left on Robertson Rd.
-Follow it all the way until it ends, it will end on 10 mle brige rd.
-Take a right on 10 mile bridge rd and then look to the right, you will see a little drive way/dirt road. This will be the entry.
-You will then see the parking area to the right once you go down the hill.
-Got a little shack you can pay at.

Off to the right you will see a trail leading in to the woods, go in and follow it until it opens up in to a cow pasture. Take a left and walk it all the way to the river. Have not been in a while, I am assuming the woods are still walkable and the cow pasture is not private property. I am heading out on Saturday at first light if you wanna join me. We can meet some where or meet in the parking area if you like.

Going there in the morning. I went about a month ago, and couldn't stand how badly kept up the place has gotten. I guess since Vance passed on, the son-in law is running the show. The only thing that has any effort towards it is the Fresh notes, and letters directing you to the pay box. If it wasn't for that you would think the old place was abandoned. I wrote a note on my envelope asking if my dontation was going to purchase trash bags to clean up that hell hole. I'm bringing my kayak, and will fish it thoroughly, with live and artificials. going to be a little too windy to hit the lake, hopefully won't be that bad down in beautiful river valley.

went out to vances this afternoon, for the first time. quite a small crowd out there today. caught 4 small but keeper sandies. there are definitely fish around the spillway.... met a fellow TFF'er named jeff, nice guy. if you read this jeff, send me a PM.

vance kinda sucks because, 1) theres no signs anywhere, 2) kind of a long (and confusing) walk to the fishing hole, 3) not much space for people to fish from. i'd much rather go out there in a little bass buster boat or jon boat, something with just a trolling motor.
