I have a question before doing it. I own an Ugly Stick fishing rod with a 50lb. electric blue Trilene line. What would be a good amount of ounce weight to add? 3? 4? 5? Any tips or advices? Normaly on another rod i got has a 25lb. line and i use 2 ouce weights. What would be good for my 50lb line.

These are some basic info of the rod but i added the Electric Blue Trilene 50lb. Line..

Shakespeare Ugly Classic Spinning Combo:

Includes the Ugly Stick and a spinning reel
Size 50 graphite ball-bearing spinning reel
Reel is spooled with Cajun fishing line
Rod is a two-piece 7'0" Ugly Stick rod
Double-footed guides
Conventional reel seat

--It might not be for a 50lb line but i added it, i dont think its a problem ive done with other rods same so yea. well back to my question hehe.

I didnt even know it was a two piece hmm must check that lol.

Where and what are you fishing for, i.e salt or fresh water species? With that set-up if you are fishing in fresh water I would assume catfish or maybe carp.

well its not in a boat its offshore, from south of texas in the Sea so am guessings its salt water, and I have fished their but with very old rods and fish that come out their are, Red fish/drum the one with the black dot in the tail. Black Drum fish, speckle trouts, some catfish, trouts and i think those are the only diffrent ones ive gotten.

But my question was, how much of weight of ounce can i add to my new rod with a 50lb line? 3, 4, 5? ounces weight?

The reason he asked what you were fishing for is the technigue you use determines the weight you use but in your case use what ever you want and it probably wont matter.

17lb minimum for 2 ounce, 20lb for 3 ounce etc. Course I was using a 14ft surf rod that excerts alots of force on the line. If your dropping your line off the side of an oil rig, which it sounds like, your rod will break before your line does. LOL

50lb line? i dont think you will have to worry about how big a weight u can use, but worry about the rods rating and what your line capacity is.
i put 50lb on one of my abu garcia 6500's just cuz i had two redfish break me off and that was in my box. I could spool the dang reel with a 3oz weight with my Whoopin Stick

well from ur point of view my rod being an ugly stick added a 50lb line what do u think? well my point was to build a nice flexible strong rod. but if u guys are saying it wont hold or something well i guess i will have to dis-lined it all and add another line or something =/
