i stopped by the benbrook marina 1-19-09 to see how low the water is and how the dredging was going. didnt see any activity. anybody know if the dredging project is still ongoing? the water is extremely low in this area, as you can see from the pics....

That's a money making operation there. I was out last week trying to Crappie fish. We need rain. This used to be the lake I went to. went to Mustang and the oil companys had pumps set up on the creek pumping water out of the lake for whatever reason. Seems a little backwards.

Fish a lot, catch a little

I dont think it is the oil companies I think it is the gas--they use water to force the gas out. There was an article in the FW Weekly talking about Lake Benbrook and how the Army Corp said that they would help the marina owners dredge the area out all the way to the main lake and after the guy sunk 100k of his money into the project the corps back out and told him tough. You can pretty much give up on that lake--with them selling the water to the gas companies it will be unusable most of the time. Thank you TRWD.

I wonder how much those sailboats are paying to rent those slips? Might be a little pricey.

I agree with ensignjason. Unfortunately, the low-water situation has now become a very repeatable yearly occurrence and has pretty much destroyed the ability for either marina on the lake to turn a profit - - sad. COE - they're slugs, TRWD - they're slugs, City of Benbrook - they're slugs . . . . . the lake is now a shell of it's former self, IMHO.

It is a sad site, the people that the marina are as good as they come. I believe its gonna get tougher on the lake as the years pass. (if thats possible) Pretty soon we can just drive up and fish a large stock tank.

Looks dire. My heart goes out to the hard working marina owners who are just trying to keep their noses above water (pardon the pun).
