Just bought a new truck and i gotta say i thought i would get a little better mpg.Wow, what a pony,i bought a dodge with a hemi engine and sadly i got 10.5 mpg(72mph,100 mi. to monticello yesterday)).My last truck got 13 mpg.I 'm guessing the average is 13-15mpg,i was hopeing for 14...oh ,but what horsepower,it does pull very well though.

Isn't 14 right in the middle of the 13 to 15 you are guessing?

I get somewhere between 11-12 mpg with my F-150. It really depends on how fast I drive as to which end of that I'm on.

Neither Ford or Dodge are really known for doing that well on gas mileage. I've had lots of customers swear they get 14-15 in their Chevy/GMC trucks. That's pretty darn good for pulling a boat.

Yea, I just bought a 2008 F-150 4X4 Lariat and am very disappointed with its gas millage. Without pulling the boat, Im lucky to get 17 mpg on the highway if there is little uphill driving. My last truck was an 07 F-150 XLT 4X4, it had the V8 but it was the smaller 4.8 liter. It was a dream on gas millage compared to my 08' Lariat which has a bigger engine. However, the bigger engine of the lariat, 5.4 I think, pulls the boat much better.

As for gas millage while pulling the boat, my truck tells me anywhere between 10 and 12 mpg. If Im going uphill, then closer to 10 mpg. If flat road then about 12 mpg. If Im going downhill it will get even better though, but how often do you drive down hill the whole way!

I've tracked every tank of gas since I bought my 2000 Silverado in Dec 99. I have the 5.3l engine and have run for 180k miles. If I run 70+ my towing mileage drops to 11-12, if I keep it to 65 I get 13-14, with regular around town mileage at 16, highway no boat is 17.5-18.

I have a dodge hemi the mileage gets better the more miles you get on it. My hemi gets 16-18 pulling 20ft skeeter 20-22 not towing but I live in the panhandle and flat ground.

My Explorer 4.0L V-6 gets 14 towing and 21 on the highway. Pulls my ProCraft real good. On a trip last fall to Dardenelle I got 14.5 average for the trip, not bad with the hills in Arkansas. Much better than my Suburban at about 11 and 10 in the wind or hills.

I have a hemi 3/4 ton and the mileage is about what you got, it sucks. 10-10.5 is about all I get going 70+ pulling a 20ft basscat. I can get 12 going about 62 or around there right after it shifts into 4th where the rpms are the lowest. I get 12-13 daily driving not towing.

I pull with a Ford F-350 dually with Power Stroke diesel. Manual transmission and 4.10 gears. I get 16 to 18 empty and 14 to 16 pulling the boat.
Sure is nice to idle out of any ramp with the five speed.

THANK YOU for your responces. As i can see it ,the manufactures are pumping their sticker tag on their mpg at least 2-3 mpg.I truly thought i would get a little better (about 13-14).That 10.5mpg struck me hard in-light of that recent high gas price. My next trip(s) im gonna try (65mph), then (62mph) using cruise control(all that shifting) and tow mode.I very impressed with the hemi's horsepower but the average in trucks seems to be 13-15.If gas goes to 3$ again im in bad shape...

I have a 2000 Ford 7.3....It gets 17 to 18 mph by itself and 14 to 15 pulling a 21' boat...before they changed to the low sulfer diesel fuel I was getting much better mileage....I could scare the hell out of 21 on the highway no trailer....dadgum tree huggers....they can't leave well enough alone.....

I always thought that the manufacturers drove the vehicles around a test track to determine mpg. I figured that was pretty close to real world highway driving even if it was flat. A year or two back this subject came up and I was doing some googling. I found out they put the vehicle on those rollers where they can run it in a bay and the car doesn't move. They have perfect shift patterns, no wind and zero issues to contend with. It's really a perfect scenario that MPG is based on.

I did find out my 08 Tundra will jump up to 19.5 on the highway if I keep it at -65 and accelerate slow enough as to not break 2000 rpms or so. At the normal 75+ I tend to drive it drops down to 14-15. I can get 8 towing or I can get 14 towing, it depends on speed and how hard I want to accelerate from stops, up hills and while passing.
