I sure am glad things are kind of back to normal with the creek. Last year was a joke! All those gill nets or somethign in the water had them all screwed up!

I think this Sunday its going to be on. STRONG cold front on Monday, so the pressure and barometer should be changing which means "good fishin"

The other problem is that a lot of these are the big gizzard shad, not the kind fish follow to eat. Many of these gizzard shad in WRC are the size of the crappie, some in the 10-12 inch range or bigger, and oh yes, the DO hit a jig!

Gizzard shad puts up a GOOD fight too! I might have to stop by with a cast net for a future trip to texoma and stock up for the jugs!

haha went out last night to the first deep bend on w. lawther. only caught 1 keeper. and yes there were alot of shads. i kept hitting some on the the cast waiting for the jig to fall!

but if u really wanna catch some crappies u gotta fish about 5-10 deep and go right under the shad. Thats how ive been catching some.

And about the tip of your pole/guides freezing up, i heard if u put vaseline on it you wont have any problems... i dont know if it still works with braided line.

I'm going to head out there Sunday afternoon sometime. I'm going to bring some rodtip de-icer, and my eskimo gear grin.

saw a ton of 4 inch shad (caught 3 foul hooked) last saturday in WRC ...also landed one that was 8 or 9 inches

the small ones looked like threadfin ...not sure what the big one was

also saw some kind of orange fish about 4 inches long come hit something on the surface ...gold fish? coy?

i wonder if the keeper-sized crappie are filling up on the threadfin at night under the full moon ...or maybe there just arent a lot of keeper-sized fish this year from all of last years gill netters

I believe that the gill netters put a big hurt on the fish population last year and were seeing the effects of it!!!!!!
