 Where to fish near 45s and beltway?

As the title says, i live at 45s and the beltway and have no clue where to fish. Grew up fishing but in longview, tx with my dad. Now that i fineally have my own gear i'd like to take up fishing down here in houston. Dont have a boat and prefer Bass or Crappie. The only place i'v been to is Burke-Crenshaw park and diddent catch a thing. Anyone know of any lakes or ponds or anything within an hour or so of here?

Lake Conroe or Lake Houston two nice lakes that are close to you.
