Got this trying to unhook a hybrid. Caught 2 more sandies with the hook in and after not being able to push the hook thru decided to go to the emergency room. Thanks Frank 1 & the medical staff at the Lewisville Medical Center. Fisherman & finger are doing ok.

Yup me too. Happened at Texoma. It is a good idea to carry a heavy duty pair of cutters with you, a lot better than having a lure hanging off your finger. Fished for a while longer, drove back home to Garland and over to Care Now to get it extracted. Mine healed very quickly, hope yours does the same!

what part of the hook do you put it around? One of the 3 trebles hooks or the base where all 3 meet?

I believe you put the line around the belly of the hook that is embedded in the flesh.

The same happened to me more times than I can remember. It seems to always be hybrids that cause this. My solution has been very effective and it is my policy now. Just pinch down the barbs on the hook. The hook will still go in, but it will also back out very easily. You may lose a few fish, but you will save a trip to the doctor too. It is also easy on the fish if they are being released.

http://www.aafp.org/afp/20010601/2231.htmlThis method works well, I first saw it on a Jimmy Houston fishing show a couple years ago and had to use it about a month ago on Grapevine. It popped right out and the guy I removed it from said he hardly felt it. I used the yank method. Of course it didn't hurt me at all. Sorry to hear of your pain.
