Looks like it may be a crawfish snake. Either that or a water snake.

a couple minutes after I took the pic...he crawled up under a styrofoam lid....he spent 45 minutes swimming against the current

Indigo snakes are rare these days. I have not seen one in 20 years. The head is also the same size as the body with little or no pronounced neck area.

Yep, your right. guess it is a water snake. I am by no means a snake expert, but I did see an Indigo at the Zoo yesterday grin
