Has anyone ever used this shad or think that it could really work. It costs 2.50 for what looks to be around 4 dozen baits. I think they are threadfin 2-3 in

It is great stuff. I use it all the time. Caught many cats and other species as well. Actually caught 3 cats in the 5-7 range a couple weekends ago on a trotline out by coleman.

I too use it all the time. Caught a catfish a few days ago with it on rod and reel. Have caught many cats on jugs using it too.

I pretty much hate old frozen shad in general. I don't have anything against Academy's just all of it.

I've used it before, did fairly well with it but I don't believe it's near as good a fresh cut shad. Haven't used it since buying my idiotproof cast net. Big live goldfish do pretty well. If your near Cabelas I believe they sell them. They stay alive a long time too.

I've had good luck with frozen shad on my trotlines. I never have used the ones from Acadamy. I usually buy them at Big Jacks in Lewisville.

Never used it, but I can see where it would work, because of the natural shad oil that would eventually come out of it after it was put into the water.

I use fresh shad I catch in a cast net, and using rasberry Koolaid mixed with the shad, because it doesn't contain sugar, and helps toughen up the shad so they don't become mushy when thawed.

I catch some fresh shad put them in zip lock sandwich bags right away, and place them on ice.

take out a bag and use them fresh, whatever is left goes home to the freezer for use when shad is hard to get.

Just one more cast!

That's the kind of cast net I need!!!!! What brand is it, and how is it idiot-proof?

Thanks!

Ray

Well I don't remember the name but I bought it at Academy. It comes in a round hard plastic case, has a instructional dvd, and has a built-in ring about 6" in dia.to help throwing. It's only 4' in dia. but as long as the shad are fairly close to the surface it does O.K.
I say idiotproof because I can get it to open about 70% of the time. blush

Caught my limit last time I used it. Works great. Not as good as fresh. The fresh stay fresh longer and the frozen eventualy get mushy. I usually buy two bags just in case and keep the second one cold for back up. I have not used the second bag in a five hour trip in several years. I have a theory that the best bait is the one caught at the lake you fish, just seems like it. Probably BS but seems like it anyway.

well i fished it on friday and caught 2 fish but the bite was slow. this allowed the minnows to pick it to the skeleton. the shad was also a little mushy. i switched bait to some chubs and caugt some good channels on floating jugs with the chubs. 19 friday evening 16 sat morn. i guess i got my answer. fresh chubs
