Sounds like you just described Lake Murvaul! I believe they are building a new lake down near Jackson (south of white house). I think they are naming it Lake Columbia after the shuttle disaster.

The new lake sounds intresting. Any idea when it will be complete? I've had a few people suggest Murvaul so I'll have to check it out.

Thanks

Not sure on the new lake, you might want to check the Texas Parks and Wildlife website to see if there is any new info.

Lake Murvaul is not a huge lake, but it pretty, lake front property and pretty decent fishing. Most folks drive on by it in favor of the big lakes. Murvaul used to be the trophy bass lake of east Texas before the Florida strain bass and Lake Fork. It also has Floridas now as well. thumb

Try lake Bob Sandlin, Lake Cypress Springs, Caddo, Lake o' the Pines (corp lake not many docks/piers) and Lake Cherokee (private lake may be to much $$$). Me personally I would not spend the extra money on lake front but rather find a nice place close to the kind of fishing/recreational pursuits that would interest me and use the extra money for a nicer boat and equipment. Good luck on your search.

Every time someone comes up with one of the "I'm looking for lake front property" posts I'm always amazed at how little response Toledo Bend gets. For having 1200 miles of shoreline and continual new developement plus hundreds of established listings (easy to find sites in the web) TBend gets little mention here on the TFF.

The lake has a new law requiring no water release once lake levels fall 4 feet below pool, has an active lake association that continually stocks Floridas and F1 crosses, and turns out a myriad of double digit fish (bass). Property is less expensive compared to lakes closer to DFW. Panfishing is excellent to phenomenal, the lake has an excellent striper, hybrid, and white bass populations. LM fishing is good.

So other than having to put up with backwards Louisiana game laws and the meat fishing mentality there can someone tell me why no one hardly even thinks of the best kept secret in Texas as far as lake property is concerned?

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I have thought about buying off-water lots but I would really like the opportunity to bait my own dock and have a great crappie fishery.

You make a pretty stong argument. You're not a realtor by chance are you? I do like TB but it's kind of isolated.

Lath,

Check out Holly Lake Ranch. It's a few minutes down the road from Lake Hawkins. The ranch has several lakes and is constant level. Prices range from $65K (non water front) to over a million (rare). It's a gated community, so the lake is some what private to home owners or guest. Has excellent largemouth bass, crappie, perch jerking and cat fish. I saw a total of 3 boats fishing last weekend while fishing from my dads dock with my kids (Saturday had 9 and sunday had 8).

Holy Ranch seemed nice from what I read but I don't know if I like the resort feel that it seems to have. I will definately check it out when I come back to Texas.

Thanks

Hello again Eddie. I'm at PO Box 249, Manhattan, MT. 59741. Man I hope your not an Amway salesman! Thanks for all your help, you've been very informative. By the way just finished fishing the Gallatin and I caught a half dozen nice Browns.
