This is a part of my game I'm sorely lacking. Any suggestions as to rod type and why?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello JBird. Depending on the line weight, and lure weight I would use 6'6", or 7' Medium for lighter line, and Medium Heavy for heavy line. There a lot of good rods to choose from if you need any help choosing one I would be glad to help send me a PM. Good fishing Michael

I prefer the MH 7' for worms and tubes. I use 30# power pro/ 15# fluro leader.

Ive got a 7 foot med as well and I use my 6'6 med/hevy alot more! I think I get a better hook set with the stiffer rod and I have WAYYYYYYY more feel becasue its a lot better rod as well! Hahah, it doesnt hurt that it was custom built for me by Crawrod either! Ive turned the 7 foot med into a c-rig rod, I know you all will say it aint stiff enough for that and I realize that but I throw a c rig not very often so it wont kill me smile LOL

Call it beginner's luck but I set up a 7' Falcon Cara heavy for my first worm rod. Tried a few other rigs since but nothing seems to be as good. I use braid and a 20 lb floro leader and I can feel everything that even brushes the worm. The only problem with this set up is that those 4 oz perch will make you break your arm.

I think it all depends on what you can afford! what is the price you want to budget for? I mean you can spend as little as $49.99 for an ok rod or spend say $330.00 for a great rod. the more money you spend doesnt mean more fish.

am I right or wrong? no brands being mentioned here just dollars and cents.

I'm a believer in that "indian not the arrow" thing but higher modulus graphite will nearly always be more sensitive. $30 worth of braid is going to be more sensitive than $3 worth of mono. Ti framed SiC guides are going to be lighter and contribute to "fishability" in a rod. IOW, you don't get what you don't pay for.

LOL! This injun got much lern'n ta do.

I have a mh 6'6" rod now. I don't know enough to know good from bad.

I have heard of braid, but is this really worth it?

BTW, thanks for the replies. I'm trying to learn as quickly as possible, but I have a long way to go. ;-D

Alot of people here like the longer rods. I have always been an advocate of a good shorter rod. 6'0" Heavy for worm fishing. You loose some power, but you gain quickness. Getting started, this maybe what you need. I have been using the G Loomis CR 724 H. It has been disontinued. I got one of the last two they had in their warehouse. Hope it doesn't break. I am looking at a 6'3" that Mike makes with Hendrix Rods right now.

Buy a Loomis IMX 783 6'6" and be done with it. I own their GLX too but for the money, this is their best rod for all around use. I throw a worm, Senko, spinnerbait, 'trap, etc. It does it all. The only thing I don't use it for is the big swimbaits. This is only my opinion but I have been there and done that.

Sure can't argue with Ken. My GLoomis IMX 783 is the one I would choose if I could only have one.

I own several GLX's...BCR's and MBR's, but I agree that the IMX is where the value is at. The difference in sensitivity is negligible. I fished several different $80-$150 rods and also wondered whether there was that much difference in a $200 IMX. There is. When I purchased my first Loomis, an IMX, about 4 years ago...my arm hurt from setting the hook on every leaf, limb, pebble, etc. It opens up a whole new world of bottom feeling. Others will chime in and agree I'm sure.

I use Loomis CR723 6' and MBR 783C 6'6" medium heavies...I also have a MBR 782C 6'6" medium for spinnerbaits but it doubles nicely for lighter plastic presentations...
