The fish resembles the Copper Nose Bream, which also gets up to five pounds in size. Our Lake has an active fish stocking program. We have stocked several hundreds of thousand of the Copper Nose Bream and are having people catch them up to 2.5 pounds thus far. However, a guy in Kentucky has the Record on the Red Ear Bream at just a little over 5 pounds. If I am not mistaken, he broke his own record in the same year. Whether it be this Bream or the Copper Nose variety, they will test your line very well and also make a great meal.

There is a fellow down around Houston somewhere who is running an experiment on these Georgia Giants in one of his stock tanks.

It's somewhere on his website.

Public or private waters? If public which one?

Thanks

Just a word of caution and not meant to dash anyone's hopes, but 5 pound BG whether copper nosed or hybrid or even red ears are very rare, very rare indeed. Two pound fish are really special and a much more realistic achievable goal. I've been raising sunfish for many years, including the hybrid BG, in my ponds and have never seen a 5 pounder.

If you go to Spring Lake in San Marcos, and ride the glass bottom boat you will see some amazingly huge bream and bass in there that look to be at least 5lbs, I wouldn't be surprised if there are over 5lbs, to bad you cant fish in there. The lake does run into the san marcos river and sometimes those bream will wash over the dam. Caught the biggest bream i have ever seen there on a medium minnow.
