In the market for a new prop for the right price. I'm wanting a 23 or 24 Tempest but found a 23 Stileto 4 blade. Should i hold out for a Tempest or get the Stileto? Currently i have a 21 Tempest on a Merc 150 XR6, turning 5750 @ 57 mph, SX190 no jack plate.

No need to hold out, you know where there's a beautiful 23 tempest right here on the forum.

Yeah but the Stileto is a $100 cheaper and I just had to spend $2000 on the A/C at home. If I could come up with the extra jack the tempest would have sold not long after you posted it. Your not out of the running i'm just trying to catch up. LOL.

Its a carb w/ HP reeds and exhaust tuner. The boat is 18.6 ft.

what benefit did you get out of the reeds and tuner? did you do them both at once and how much did you pickup? my 18.5 champ runs low 60's @ 6100 rpm with just me, i was wondering if the reeds would help. Someone on the forum told me not to mess with the tuner.

I'm not sure of the benefits yet because i was running 57 @ 5700 rpm prior to the work. My rpm limiter is set at 5750 which i didnt know until after the mod. I'm needing a new prop to take advantage of the extra ponies. My boat was under proped to begain with, needless to say my hole shot is sweet. It still idles rough due to being a carb but the aceleration and mid range is great. When i line up with my buddy (20' ranger, 200 EFI) he playes catchup for a good quarter mile. Needless to say he's fixing to get his done. I should run in the low 60's w/ a 23 Tempest prior to the mods. I cant wait to get another prop to see if it payed off. Just for referance water pump impeller, Bobs exhaust tuner and boyensen reeds, $500. Is that a 150 that your turning at 6100?

Im running a Merc 175, thats my black Champ for sale on the forum now. I ran 63.5 at 5900 with the tempest and 62.5 at 6100 with laser. My boat will launch out of the hole with the laser. I might be able to turn a 23 or 24 but I dont want to give up the holeshot.

Gotta love that ride in those Champs. I will check back on your Tempest around the next payday, maybe we can make it work. I'm just not sure if I could turn the 4 blade. Hopefully, Steve will chime in when he gets to work in the morning.

gary cup your prop a little , its like adding a inch to the pitch overtacking is wasted hp, id rather pass you down the lake instead of beating you out of the hole

Tempest vs. Stiletto.

sorry, but NO comparison difference there. The stiletto is not even in the same league as the TEMPEST.

I look at props in many different ways. Blade design, ability to modify. resale. repairability, etc.
Nobody makes pitch blocks for cheap props. like the stilleto. We have to use a comparable blade design, and get a close as possible to repair cheap props like the stilleto.
The TEMPEST plus, gives you a flo-torque hub, pvs plugs to adjust the holeshot, and one of the best blade designs on the market today.

Gary said his prop is 100.00 more than the stiletto. That's a NO BRAINER. the Tempest is worth hundreds more than a stiletto.

I think you know where i stand on that question...LOL

p.s. RESALE example. i buy used "cheap" props for about 50.00-100.00 if they are in great shape. most of the times i just pass on them.
the tempest will still bring within 100.00 of a new one.

steve.

Thanks Steve that is what I was looking for. It seems that Gary may have sold the Tempest but I will stay away from the Stileto. Hopefully, next time I see a good deal on a Tempest i will have the extra cash on hand. Do you think a 24 Tempest would be to much? Or should i stick with a 23?
