You will get tons of opinions but a good all around rod would be a 6 1/2' - 7.0' Med Heavy Rod. Pretty much good for all around fishing.
You might want Med action for crankbaits...

I have to agree with Hard Rain most all of mine are 61/2 and 7 foot, with the exception of my c-rig. It's a custom made 8 footer with wrap around eyes.

I have a MH Falcon Original Spinning rod. It's new to me, but the few times I've used it, it has performed beyond what I expected. Great rod!

Falcons and Allstars are in the 6 1/2 ft and 7' are very good inexpensive rods and have a great warranty. Can be purchased at Academy and other places.

All of the rods mentioned above are good rods in fact I probably have all brands mentioned in my rod box, however I have had my new Hendrix Rods for about a month now and I can honestly say that they are the closest rod to G loomis that you are going to find for the money.
If you do talk to Mike at Hendrix Talk to him about the 70M it is one of the latest rods I have purchased and it is very versatile.

One more note, I would look at a few different sized rods. 6'6-7 medium fast action for small plastics and jerks. 7'6 for pitching or chunking big plastics. I like a 7ft heavy action for carolina rigging or worm fishing and also for chunking heavier Traps. For spinner bait, I would look for something with some tip flex. Brand doesnt matter so much, just find one you can afford and are comfortable with. Warranties are also nice. There is a different feel to every rod but the average person would not be able to tell a difference. Good luck in your hunt.

I too, have fished with many of the mentioned. I have fished Loomis rods for the last 2-3 years. Thought they were the BEST. You can't go wrong with one. I am in the process of changing over to Hendrix rods. As mentioned they are of Loomis quality and less expensive. Either way I think you will like it.

I use Loomis GLX's, but for the price range I'm sure the Hendrix rods are great, as well as the G-blanks (which I've fished), and a few others I can't name offhand. G-Blanks were using Alconites and Shikari SHX's for a buck-fifty, but the last time I talked to him, I thought he said they were discontinuing the SHX, but I'm not sure. None of the smaller rod builders roll their own blanks or anything, and I think they should just come right out and say what blank they are using. Batson Rainshadow's? Shikari's? Either way, I think saying a rod is as good or better than a $300 GLX that sports titanium framed SIC's loses a little credibility. I'm sure they are great, but a rod is just the sum of it's components, and if the components aren't better; the rod isn't. They tell you what guides they are using, but never the blank (with the exception of G-Blanks). I think an honest "my rods are the best in their class" is a better approach.
