If you have any interest in West Texas lakes:

Lake Sweetwater and Oak Creek are filling fast after the storms from Tropical Storm Erin last night. Many areas received 6-10 inches of rain overnight. Oak Creek in the past was one heck of a bass/crappie fishing lake, but has been low for many years. Up 6 plus feet overnight.

Lake O.H. Ivie, a tremendous bass/crappie lake is gaining water with the Colorado over 19 feet high at Ballinger. That will be great news for crappie and bass fishermen alike.

Locally, Ft. Phantom Hill is running 3 feet over the spillway and they are preparing to evacuate lake residents due to expected flood waters tonight. Flood waters from the South heading North (Odd isn't it) heading towards Abilene and then to Ft. Phantom, expected to hit Ft. Phantom during the night Saturday.

We may have alot of new water to fish once this settles down. Hubbard Creek, Stamford and Millers Creek are all running over the spillway or within a foot of doing so.

Let's hope this flushes the Golden Algae out of the Brazos and Colorado water sheds.

Regards and Great Fishing,
Mud-Dabber

Stamford is trying to flood again (2:45p.m.). Consideration on evacuations could come soon. As everyone may remember, Stamford flooded two years ago, wiping out many retirement homes and trailers.

Decisions on Phantom and Stamford later this afternoon on evacuations, although several have already started moving things from their homes. They have prepared to evacuate the small community of Buffalo Gap south of Abilene and have already evacuated everyone at Abilene State Park. The water at Abilene State Park entrance is 75-100 yards wide coming off the highway.

Regards,
Mud

Has anybody been able to access the Real Time Resevoir website today? I cant get it to come up, just wondering, thanks in advance. Last time I was out at OH Ivie it was over 20 feet low. If it fills up it might be better that Amistad in a couple of years.

Remember just a few short years ago Ft. Phantom was almost dry and water was being rationed? It is good to see Phantom and other area lakes are full.

Phantom was 12 feet low back in March. On Sunday morning it is slightly less than 3 feet over the spillway with the crest of water currently in the City of Abilene on the North side. Extensive flooding within town in the North West portion of town. Unfortunately, one death yesterday from the flood waters. Many businesses and several homes are currently being flooded North of North 1st Street.

Good part, Lake Sweetwater is up over 24 feet in the last two days.

Pray for those in town being affected. Some of the lake side residences at Ft. Phantom are being flooded, but so far it is minimum with more water headed that way.

Lake Stamford is right at 4 feet above the spillway and those residences are within inches of being flooded again.

Regards,
Ron

This is great news. My deer lease is about 10 south of Lake Sweetwater. I had a feeling it would be dry when I went out this Labor Day to prepare for deer season.
