I would agree to spray it with a mixture of oil and diesal. Hope it works out. Hate that

If you've ever done any woodworking.
There's no difference between oil and diesel and mineral spirits and linseed. Except the price.

i thought the advantage of cedar was bugs would not eat it? Not if you neglect it like this. Those boards look 20 years old.

Spray it once a year. Until the 50/50 mixture exceeds the cost of you running to Lowe's and buying enough replacement planks.

Something is eating it. I would replace the eaten boards and spray insecticide on the both sides of the fence. Do not store the eaten boards. Cut them down and put them in the trash. Burn them? They're cedar. Don't burn them. Either throw them in the trash or haul them to the dump. This entire neighborhood is covered in that style of cheaper fence. Trying to isolate whatever is eating it...Lost cause. I'm serious about the 50/50 mix. Besides sealing the wood. It'll make it taste bad. Bugs will leave it alone. And No, it's not anymore flammable then water sealer.

Cedar fence is not cheap. 50/50 is. If you routine it. It'll out last you. It's a wood finish sealer. One of the best. It's something you soak the base of fence posts. You don't need the water sealer. At a rounded off price of 5 gallons. $80. Without a word up front. How many times you have to apply it. How long does it last? How long before your lazy butt has to go out there. And spray the damn fence?

Carpenter ants.
Spray the fence with a mixture of 50% used motor oil and 50% diesel. Using a bug sprayer. Treat the entire fence. Just did that on my utility trailer. I have never seen a borer issue around here but will be also spraying my fence. Less used oil to take to Auto Zone.

i thought the advantage of cedar was bugs would not eat it? There are different types of cedar. I don't think cedar used for fencing is one that is resistant to insects.

That fence is cooked

If itโs just five planks, Iโd salvage it by coating the holes with wood filler; then 50/50 the entire fence. With it being Texas/Oklahoma, some sort of high winds will take out a thin privacy fence every ten years or so anyway.
