Hadn't heard one in forever. Walked outside to get something out of my truck and we have one up in a tree singing near the house. Had to stop and listen for a minute. Took me back to being a kid. Whippoorwills and lightning bugs just ain't as plentiful as they once were.

And honest as a Robin on a springtime window sill
And longer than the song of a whippoorwill

We have some around here but have not heard any this year. Camp at Texoma In spring or summer and they will keep you up at night. They are evening insecrivores and will not show up until nighttime temps warm up.

My love is deeper than the holler
Stronger than the river
Higher than the pine trees growin' tall upon the hill
My love is purer than the snowflakes
That fall in late December
And honest as a Robin on a springtime window sill
And longer than the song of a whippoorwill

A whippoorwill

Lightening bugs seemingly disappeared for a long time. Have seen very few in the past few years
