Fished the lake last Thursday , WT was in the low 60's and the spotted bass were on slick banks with retaining walls . And I mean right up against the walls ! Very tiny spots and we only caught about 5 largemouth with one of those being about 3 pounds caught off of a secondary point midway in a cove . It was my first time on the lake and we boated about 20 fish in half a day . Amazed me how deep a lot of the water was so close to shore .

Sounds like fun! If all goes to plan I'm going to make the trip up there next weekend. Is the lake pretty wide open to run or are there areas to take it slow in? Feel free to PM me

Used to be a great big fish lake but “dr” Richard Ott of TPWD screwed the pooch and decided to put a [censored] ton of grass carp into the lake ….then decided to host the only ever TPWD bow fishing for carp tournament ever hosted by TPWD because he realized they screwed up and put too many fish in…..
Luckily he is no longer employed at TPWD
The fish and the lake are making a comeback after TPWD [censored] the bed
Some of these lakes are tough. The home owners and pleasure boaters vs fisherman. Cities or towns who have jurisdiction over the lake get to make the final decisions and TPWD has to somehow make the best of it.
If your coming all the way from Pearland, you just need to just go to Naconiche. Went last week and spent 2 days there- it is really special. Timber, Hydrilla, Balls of shad 50' wide, schooling bass.

Dick Ott, the lake killer. He never met a sprig of grass he didn't want to kill. He claimed otherwise, but by his works we know him. If a little Aquathol K and a few grass carp were good, a whole lot were better.
Recommendation was to put 1500 grass carp in J’ville. They put 3500 in just to be sure. That was the beginning of the end of a really good lake. Those carp ate every piece of grass in that lake. They would literally school and feed on mower clippings blown into the lake. Many have used the term “mud hole” to describe the aftermath.

So from what I’m understanding on this thread.. regardless of the rain, the lake is a mud hole anyway and my time would be better spent elsewhere.
That’s a shame to hear. It looks a lot like Houston County (my favorite lake) from the pictures I’ve seen so I was intrigued to try it. Just trying to hit up new lakes I’ve never been to before. I like to get some info on here first because 99% of these lakes aren’t around the corner from me like they are for y’all north Texas guys
