It's time for the full court press...interest rate cuts, releasing oil from the Strategic Reserve to try to lower pump prices, and probably new giveaway programs announced...to try to get Biden reelected.

No cut is expected

Seems like the pending cuts keep getting pushed out farther and farther

I see Bank OZK is now offer 5.30% on CD last few days, that the highest they have offered since Interest Rates started increasing.

Rates won't be cut until 2nd quarter at earliest.

The Fed finds itself in an increasingly uncomfortable situation where the market has witnessed several successive months of inflation data that refuses to play ball with the most ideal course of events. Specifically, it would be "nice" if core inflation had continued a gradual descent seen in 2023. Instead, it has leveled off just above the zone needed for the Fed to be confident that it returns to 2%. Expect this to be addressed in several ways today, but most assuredly in the press conference. Then there's the matter of Fed rate cuts in 2024. They expected 3 of them back in December. Market participants continue to see 2-3. Expect heavy focus on the dot plot as a result. There's a risk the market is too bought-in to the Fed's desire to modulate the Fed Funds Rate sooner than later, simply because it could cut 3 times and still be in restrictive territory. The Fed may have been more willing to champion such ideas when core inflation was at a 6 month annualized pace under 3% and falling. Now that it's closer to 3.5% and rising, the tone shift (both via the dots and the press conference) is today's biggest wild card and biggest focal point.

As I’ve been saying for over a year.

We are closer to a rate hike than a cut.

If Interest rates are supposed to lower inflation, they better raise it 2 more points. Everything I’ve seen has increased in price over the last month.

Mortgage rates need to stabilize at 5.5-6.5 %. BTW, artificially low interest rates are NOT a conservative phenomena but rather a government subsidy.

Screw that, they need to be at a maximum of 4. The government subsidizes everything else, they can that too, if that’s what you want to call it.

Most of us retirees paid 6 or so percent for our mortgages. And now many have significant cash that they are uncomfortable investing in the stock market but are were getting next to nothing for CDs until interest rates increased. They were in effect, subsidizing low interest rates.

So let them subsidize then, if they can subsidize EV, Obama phones, green energy, screw em, they can subsidize mortgage rates too.
