You ever worry you'll pick a look alike that isnt a morel? No..there are such things a false morels but its pretty easy. Morels are hollow, falsies are not. you are around sherman? i would love to find some of these. do you know of any public land they mite be found on? pm me if ya do. thanks You're in Forney I assume. They're up everywhere now in your area. Go to the woods, walk old creeks and look for downed trees. The mycelium growth of morels is often triggered by a tree dying, the morels are the last burst of energy from the tree that stimulates the underground network (mycelium). Its a lot more scientific than that but you get the gist. Decaying trees, elms are the best but just about any hardwood I have found them near. When you find 1, stop and look around. The network of morels could be 500 ft away. Think of it as a house foundation, when you find one, grid walk that foundation to find his siblings. Rarely is there only 1 morel, there's always more. That said, when I walked the woods yesterday, I probably covered 5 miles and found my stash in 2 small areas about 30-50 yards apiece. That's some of the allure, they are not easy to find early....when they are really up, the big yellows, it does get easier but that marks the end of the season is near. Go to the woods & spray GOOD, ticks are bad this year!
