Just read a story that 9 people died and 78 others were sickened after eating Sea Turtles. This was in Africa.
No turtle soup for me. I draw the line at frog legs.

I was at a global Director’s meeting, an annual thing, and as a group we discussed the world’s worst airport and then got onto “who ate the weirdest food”. There was a German guy that ordered snake in a Chinese restaurant (in China). Apparently, you pick the live snake first. They brought the snake to the table and cut its head off, poured the blood into a glass and presented it to him to drink. He did, and later ate the cooked snake.
And I knew a guy that once ate warm fresh monkey brains. He said it was an honor to be offered the first spoonful from a monkey that had been dead maybe 30 seconds. He said he ate it, but his wife fainted.
I guess raw oysters is it for me

Ostrich burgers. They were not cooked enough and were very slimy.
Fresh water muscles straight from the Ohio River. Those made my lips tingle for a while.
Bowfin, on a lost bet. It was tough to get down.

Spent 6 weeks in Japan many years ago. I just learned not to ask what I was eating, and figured it was much better than a lot of other countries.

I was presented a hors d’ oeuvre of an olive inside a cheese puff at one of my wife’s work parties years ago, I bit into it thinking it was an eclair and it was so bad I had to spit it out, right in front of the person whom prepared it. Not very weird but I just won’t eat most of the stuff already mentioned

Sea turtle in Grand Cayman, delicious. Snails at Vincent's in Dallas, very good.

does any one know of a restaurant that serves them in the Nacogdoches area? Idk but if you’re ever in Denver, try Buckhorn Exchange. Great atmosphere and all kinds of exotic foods. I enjoyed the RM oysters and rattlesnake nachos

I had an Oyster once. That was plenty for me. Got 1/2 of one down, then tossed it up along with the previous 3 courses. Didn't know you were not supposed to bite a ray one in half, green stuff drips out. Have had Robbin, Raccoon, Possum, Armadillo & Beaver Tail and some things in Southeastern Mexico that I still don't know what it was.

Anyone eat gar? I heard it is poor man's lobster. Nah, Monkfish is the poor man's lobster and it's delicious! Central Market will sometimes have it on sale from the normal $19.99/lb down to $9.99/lb (that's when it's for us poor folks).

I have eaten monkey a few times and baboon once. I recommend neither. Camel is pretty nasty too. Zebra on the other hand is quite good.

Went to the Tokyo fish market and ate sushi at 6am. We were told that was when it was the freshest. We sat at a counter and the sushi chef held out his knife with the still beating heart of some fish he was cutting, I didn’t eat it, but one of the guys on the team did. I don’t eat beating hearts until after 5pm.

That’s just unchristian

Anyone here try balut? How about durian? I have had 5 or 6 clients tell me durian is really tasty, but the smell is super strong and not pleasant. I don't think I could do it...and balut? NO!

When I was at WVU I knew a black dude that was ticketed for discharging a firearm. He told the LEOs that he was trying to shoot blackbirds to cook. He said growing up his mom cooked them often. I have heard crow meat is as dark as their feathers.

An eyeball from a young ram's head complete with wool intact in a pot at the bottom of a hole in the ground. Described to me as the "real true barbacoa" in Tlalnepantla Mexico at the quinceañera of a friend's daughter. That was after a whole bunch of bottles of "little soldiers"

Elephant tongue- pretty gamey and smelled weird. Armadillo- several times, very tasty white meat. Raccoon- tough as leather very gamey. Meadowlark- dark liver taste Robin- dark liver taste.
The last two I did not kill which is illegal I had it in southern Louisiana where it is eaten regularly. I did not kill the elephant either. A friend of mine did and said it was ceremonial to eat the tongue so he had some friends over after he returned from his hunt and had a party. Luckily they had Oryx and Eland meat also and it was wonderful.meat. I have eaten sea turtle on several occasions and it was delicious. Rattlesnake, possum, conch, sea snail, eel, fried grasshopper, grub worm, sea urchin ovary to add a few more. I usually will try anything nice just to experience it.

Squid ink and pasta... Everyone said that if you visit Venice you've gotta try the Squid ink and pasta, I guess it's a local deliciously... So I did... Tasted like chalk and pasta... But it gives you purple teeth, good for a unique vacation photo... Dan

My BIL was given a ham, or rear leg quarter off a kangaroo.. It was a big thick chunk of meat so we BBQ'd it like a brisket..
Meat looked blue when it was done and very stringy.. Not the best cut of meat on the planet.. (Tip: Don't eat blue meat..)
Proper Barbacoa and Lengua tacos are some of the best things south Texas has to offer..
Alligator gar (Catan) is an everyday occurrence in Zapata.. Locals will get in a fist fight if you're trying to give one away..
Hot, crispy, and still oozing milk guts from sheep wrapped in a tortilla with some hot sauce is hard to beat.. My uncle that cooked them all the time when I was a kid called them Mariguts. (sp) Awesome.. Take a big bite and all that [censored] be drippin down your chin..
Ah, the good old days..

Here's my list...I pride myself on trying foods at least once. Some of these, you couldn't pay me to eat again.
1) Balut...baby duck egg. Bit into it, got soft bones and feathers. Instantly turned green and ran for a bush. 2) 1000 year old egg...tasted like sulfur, smelled like septic system. Nope not again. 3) Durian...smelled like feet, tasted way too sweet, and sticky. 4) Chitlins...no matter how much you clean them, they held poop! 5) Chili crickets...MX delight. I actually enjoyed these with Corona and lime. 6) Dinuguan...Filipino blood stew. This is amazing w/ rice!

Id love the hear the story behind the 1000 year old egg- Here's the story...We lived in Chicago (Glenview, IL) on the now decommissioned Navy Base. Our church friends were from Thailand and they had Chinese parents. Every Chinese New Year, they would celebrate with customary foods. One of those being 1000 year old eggs, they aren't really that old. It's a process of storage / fermenting them which is 1000+ years old. They cracked them outside, as the fumes were raunchy! My dad dared me to try it since I'm the brave one. My mom also attempted it, but couldn't get it close to her mouth without gagging. I grabbed by sliver of the egg, dropped in it, and chewed exactly twice. Those 2 seconds of h$ll in my mouth I wish I would have rethunk it. The taste burned into my tongue for the night. I teared up as I swallowed. I tried rice, water, milk, everything I could to remove the sulphuric funk that plastered my mouth. Their family laughed but gave me very high praise for taking it down. NEVER AGAIN!!!

In the AF I was briefly assigned to support a Singapore squadron conducting operations on our base. They were doing night ops, and all the ground personnel invited me to supper with them as soon as their planes launched. I didn't bring my dinner, so I bought a cup of noodles from their snack bar and sat down to one of the most interesting meals I've ever had. They all brought out their tuppeware dishes and started eating. Even though everyone brought their own, every dish was considered family style, so they would just reach across and grab food off of everyone's plate. Being the only white eye in the room, everyone was coming up to me wanting me to try their stuff. They'd just scoop a piece of whatever into my cup of noodles and smile at me while I ate it.
At the time I was a 20 year old west Texas boy raised on meat and potatoes. To me seafood was fried catfish on a Friday night, and anything raw was considered bait. Singapore is an interesting country made up of a mix of cultures from India, Thailand, China, Malaysia, and many others. This was my first introduction to sushi, curry, fish head soup, fish eyeballs, octopus and no telling what else. Fairly sure there were some calf fries in there, but I'll never be certain what that fried ball was.
I've eaten lots of more exotic foods in the years since then, but that was by far the most shocking meal I'd had at that point in my life. It was a cool experience.

I've even had live / well sort of live / baby octopus. It's skewered on a stick after removing it's beak, internals, etc. then handed to you moving. You pour soy sauce over it and enjoy. It's probably the craziest thing to see eaten, because they can fight their way out. AHAHHAHA
PS: I should have added, I live in Japan for several years as kid, so I got accustomed to eating raw food.

Awesome man! Thankd!
What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

I’m sorry that happened to you sir Fight their way out? of your stomach?

Yeah, my ex-wife was pizzeria at me going fishing one day. Got home and she had me a “tuna fish” sandwich made for my lunch. NOT, after one bite I found the cat food can in the trash. We didn’t have a cat
Keep looking forward. That’s why windshields are larger than rear view mirrors.
