After calling around for a couple of weeks it seems like no one actually rebuilds them anymore.
Every place just wants to swap it out with a new one

What happened to mechanics that can actually turn a tool and know what they are doing instead of replacing parts

Anyone know of a shop that does?

sartin marine, yantis/fork

have to get mine in for a bent prop shaft.

with the cost of shop time I am not sure it isn't more cost effective to just replace with new/rebuilt, sei still sells them with 3 yrs. warranty I believe, cost has gone up but still pretty reasonable imo.

Its not so much about being a mechanic as it is what mechanics charge per hour, and the shop they work in- you are better getting a new unit w/warranty.

Often today the case itself is spun out to where they don't rebuild dependably. Though yes, many do not rebuild them like they once did and it still can be done.

the reason not many rebuild them anymore is that most of the time they wont stay together it is easier to order a reman unit put oil an water pump on it an it has the same warranty as a new one. sometimes it is even cheaper by the time you buy parts an wait on them to get here put them together an it fails you are back to square one an everyone is mad.

Which lower unit are you looking for? Mine took a dump Friday and I’ve been looking myself. Like everyone is saying I think it looks like buying a reman is the way to go.

It's so much cheaper to get a new one. I ordered mine online and put it on myself. Saved a LOT of money and it really wasn't that hard.

I blew one in a champs tournament a couple years ago on Rayburn running to weigh in. I brought it o Jorgensen the following Monday in the snow and sleet that hit the area the next day. They told me that they were having trouble getting anything from Skeeter due to travel conditions and I needed my boat the following weekend for another tournament. They then told me they could put a refurbished one on my boat with same warranty that Skeeter/Yamaha would offer. I decided to do that and got my boat the following Friday at no charge due to insurance covering it and is still running good to this day. Ben Matsubu been running a refurbished one for 6-7 years is what he told me a while back and running like new to this day.

If you want a SEI lower for an HPDI you have to tell them it's for a 2003 OX66. It's a different case but does work .The gear ratio is slightly different but not much. I ran one for two years on my HPDI.

Checking EBAY might be another option to find an OEM or a rebuilt OEM.
