Just a heads up.. If you are coming to Falcon and launching at the Zapata County ramp..

The old Veleno Bridge is now about six inches under the water. It is in the kill zone.. When leaving the Veleno, run about 25 yards to the right (west) of the westernmost floating buoy.. There are only two buoys on the bridge, one on either end.. DO NOT run between them!

This is near the mouth of the creek on your way to the main lake. If you have never been here before stop in the store and I will explain it in detail..

Biggest story of the week has been the weather.. AKA wind and clouds and some nasty.. Not a lot of folks on the water since early in the week.. Still some nice fish being caught..

Most fish shallow in flooded brush/weeds.. An actual flipping bite is going on in some hardwoods.. Got to beat em to get the fish to bite.. Multiple flips to the same tree can finally piss em off..

But most fish caught on spinner baits, chatterbaits, swim jigs or a bait you can fish thru the weeds and grass..

Lake looks awesome with flooded cover we have not seen in years..

Still Tigers south.. Very few fish on top of lake despite good looking water..

We are still rising 2" plus a day due to releases from Amistad..

Valley has had more rain than us so I will hope irrigation round 1 can be avoided.. We'll see..

.5" here in last three days..

Great to hear...except for the weather but that will change for the better and Spring is upon us.

Have you heard anymore on influx of the water from Amistad? Kinda crazy isn't it that the powers that be have not released definitive plans on what is going on but like you and I both have said it's the government.....

Several e-mails to IBWC.. No answer..

They took about two days off of the water releases during the week.. But have been back to releasing at the higher rate as of two days ago..

I have no idea..

IWBC slowed the release to recover the man's body which was down river from the dam. The Drain has begun again to approx. 75ft low so Mexico can work on the dam. This was told to us from NPS once they started to release again while they were adjusting the dock.

Thanks 6BOOMER for the information. Saw the original story about the missing fisherman from Lufkin but thought recovery had been done and could not figure out why the releases were suspended for the two days.
Sounds as IBWC is at least keeping NPS informed as to things which seems necessary considering all the dock movement they are having to do.
Have you heard any definitive timeline on the entire repair project?

Dang, I'm suprise they left that much of a bridge structure intact. I guess they never expected the water to drop low enough for it to be an issue?

No time line yet will work on it, Some will squeak. NPS knows so does others but keeping a tight lip. NPFL Championship is here beginning early March no word whats going to happen.

So with the warm weather this week and the full moon you’re saying we should haul [censored] down there?

I would think the spawn is already at least half over down there.

Lotsa boats out yesterday. Lotsa new arrivals.. But cold front and rain and clouds last weekend cooled the water back off.. 57 more or less starting the day yesterday. Low sixties by the afternoon.

Numbers were poor yesterday but several big fish caught. The fish should get more active as the week goes on and highs are supposed to be in the high eighties and even 90 one day. Full moon late this week..

Lake back to rising a couple of inches a day as water from Amistad continues to arrive. More flooded brush than we have seen in years.. Looks awesome.

The dam area got about 1.5" of rain last week, and parts of the valley got up to four inches.. Should keep us from releasing water for a good while.. But you never know. We got about .7 here in Zapata.

The state park concrete ramp is back in operation..

On another note, have your [censored] in order at the state park.. (You should anyway) Barny Fife down there is bucking for Seargent..
