I have to be in Lake Charles for a few days in September, will be flying into Houston and driving over with a day to spare. I'd like to fish for redfish on that spare day. I have a recommendation on a guide in Galveston, and may pursue that option, but if there's something in Port Arthur/Beaumont/Sabine Lake that's comparable, that's a more direct route.

Am I making a mistake in NOT going to Galveston on the trip? Always willing to drive a little extra for better fishing.

Thanks,
Pete

That's a fairly difficult question ... It'll be easier to know if you make a mistake after it's all said and done.

I guess my question is whether under typical circumstances I could expect the fishing in Galveston to be meaningfully better than places along a more direct route. I know that nothing is guaranteed.

Not an expert on that area by any means, BUT sure see a lot of happy people who spent time at Hackberry south of Lake Charles.

Calcaseiu or Sabine are better options for Redfish than Galveston.

September is a good Redfish month. If you want to catch big Bull Reds the jetties anywhere is a solid plan. After a bull or two they are all about the same. We try to avoid those and get the size to grill on the pit.

I would tell the guide you want Reds then Trout.

Do you have a guide recommendation in either of those places? We care more about the bulls than eating size fish -- will be flying home a few days later and don't want to worry about keeping fillets frozen.
