Nails Creek State Park
Main# 979-289-2392

Called this morning, Boat Ramp is Open at Nails Creek State Park👍
But was told, there is still a lot off grass/vegetation buildup exiting ramp, 2 foot draft or less suggested😉

Parking/Gate at Irwin Bridge is open, but would still be careful where you park😉Newman's Bottom is closed, but you are allowed to park at gate and walk down👍

For those of you running outboards and paddlecraft, be advised that there is a lot of grass and brush in the area between the ramps and the creeks. This stuff will wrap in your prop and hang up on anything you have in the water such as a stringer or minnow bucket. If you're going to travel up the creeks make sure you know where the channel is, lake is not a pool yet and have seen several folks getting stuck. That water on the south west side of the mouth is SHALLOW!

Fish NB this morning. About 6 vehicles there. Caught ~12 WB all males, most 11"-12" with couple dinks.

I will be heading out tomorrow. Do you have to park at the gate and walk into Newman or is the parking lot open? Do they still have the self pay station at the gate?

Hit the creeks today and caught 20 WB, missed a handful others and caught a couple channel cats. All on the fly with most success on a bead head marabou jig. WB were nothing spectacular in size but many were keepers.

Nice catch! Water actually looks fairly clear in that picture.

Newmans Bottom - Park at Pay Station. Road closed to parking area close to Yegua. Enjoy ~1 1/2 mile walk from Pay Station to Yegua Creek. Fished NB Thursday morning. 12+ WB mostly "clearly" keepers but no large ones. Spinning reel ultralight with white 1/16 1/8 oz jigs, WB preferred white versus chartreuse. However, a person had 4-5 using chartreuse "tandem Spec rig" fishing area 40-100 yards left of closed bridge.

If you don't wanna walk to NB, I can take you there by boat.

My cousin Eller Troy and I went to Irwin Bridge this morning and we ended up with 18 total. The day I expected of full stringers for both did not happen. The water looks very fishable there and many holes that look great but no fish. Caught 10 in one hole, 6 in another and just one in a couple of other holes. I imagine Newman's Bottom would have been the place to go but I really enjoyed catching those white bass again after a 2 yr absence. Need one more good rain and it will really go off. Only had 1 female of the 18 fish. [Linked Image]
