Anyone DIY it? One of my neighbors replaced his. Other then the weight of the door it does not look like a hard job. I have replaced the rollers on mine twice so I am familiar with pulling the glass out of the frame. I had a dog that scratched on the glass when it wanted in so the bottom 2' or so of the glass is scratched up. I thought about just putting new glass in the current door but figured a total replacement was a better option.

when you install the frame be very sure it is square in the hole, pull diagonal from corner to corner and shim till they measure the same.

Why not go with French doors?

I thought about that but for my application I think I prefer a slider.

I looked at specs for SGD & French doors on HD and Lowes websites. At HD the weights are very close while at Lowes the French doors are significantly lighter. I suspect the specs at Lowes are wrong. I like the fact that SGDs have more glass area but also like the fact that French doors will be lower maintenance.

French doors are great if your foundation never moves.

I was weed-eating around her back patio and shattered the door with a rock. It took us the better part of a day to complete the job but the difficulty level wasn't too high.

French doors are great if your foundation never moves. I asked my neighbor and he does not care for his. Going with the SGD with blinds in the glass. Waiting for warmer weather but not until the bugs get bad.
