You'd think flying over water they would have had on gear to float and could strip their heavy duds off in the case they went in. Also I struck me odd that there was never a mention of a beacon. Its a simple device (PLB) that is attached to a life jacket that actuates when it gets in the water and broadcasts for hours before the battery dies.
Putting a beacon on an operator is hilarious. You have no clue how this works...

Sucks. They were stationed where my buddy is. I reached out to him for details and condolences, but haven't heard back.

This thread is pretty disgusting quite honestly - Two SEALS died and you guys want to see who knows more or plays more video games or some chit...good Lord man, pay these guys the respect the thread name deserves. Two of our best paid the ultiimate price for our freedom... doesn't matter who's watch this happened under - and quite honestly its pretty simply your watch. Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram from Roanoke - sad day for the SEAL community and those who care.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Such a tragedy. Very dangerous op in rough seas during boarding. My heart goes out to the families.

I don't know much about this, but I'm thinking that it probably occurred at night. I've seen those little janky caving ladders they use - it would seem super easy to get knocked off one of those, especially in rough seas. Going in that water, potentially between two boats that are underway at night time...there is all sorts of bad to that scenario.
Those guys are heroes.
