Thanks. I need to go with you since i've never had a good deadsticking trip. One question - what do you consider the best drift speed when deadsticking?

Dennis-
I consider the best drift speed to be between .3 and .5 mph. I feel it is super critical that your line is as vertical as possible with a very slight drift drag on your presentation. I am headed up to northern minnesota to do some ice fishing ffrom Jan 17-22 but when I get back we will get out together. I will give you a call when I get back.

RoadRunner-
I have been using a rig I call the triple rig. It is a 1.25 oz jig on the bottom with a ZMAN Nuke Chicken 3.75 inch and then 2 hooks above spaced 18 inches apart with a shad colored berkley live fluke and then above that a orange/chartruese berkley live fluke. Hope this helps you!

Occasionally I will venture out to other areas.

I usually don't bother guides when they are working. As a matter of fact, when a guide comes into the area I'm fishing, I usually leave if it is tight quarters. They are trying to make a living putting smiles on peoples faces. Me? I'm just screwing around. I throw back 99.5% of the fish I catch.

I had family in town and took them out with a guide. They are not experienced and I wanted to be sure they got on some fish. We rolled up on this light blue boat, looked like a Mako. We got a little close and the light blue Mako took off. Really within 3 mins of us getting there. The guide kept asking me if I thought he had crowded the guy (in the light blue boat). I kept saying no. I mean it was closer than I would have gotten personally, but not ridiculous... no one was going to be casting over anyone or anything like that. There was room and its a known spot. EVERYONE fishes that spot. It was tough that day. VERY windy, about as windy as it gets and you still go out, but we were able to get 20 or so keepers in the boat. Anyway, if that was you (I think it was, nice boat btw!) good to know you left not because you thought we were being jerks, but bcs you wanted us to have a good time... very kind of you.

It is kind of you to post the experience. There are a ton of places to fish on Cedar Creek. I have actually waved guides in to fish when they motored past and then left. Nothing personal. Oddly enough, we were at one of our kids house in Corinth on the 27th. I did go out on New Years eve afternoon. I saw a boat with about 5 or 6 people fishing 3 jug hump. So I hit mid lake hump and then 3 jug hump east. I caught 3 hybrids jigging using a 11' ACC crappie rod. That was fun!
