Got a few academy gift cards for Christmas, so I ordered a Dobyns Champion XP rod. the rod I wanted was not in stock anywhere within 100 miles. the only option was shipping it to my house.

this is how it arrived. pretty dang sad how they shipped a 300$ rod.

Academy is attempting to correct their error and assuage my grief by offering a 15% off code for me reordering the same exact rod while also not refunding me the 15$ I spent to have this joker shipped. lets just say that I have been happier before. was a decently big fan of academy for quite a while. I think they do many good and great things for the community and the fishing industry, just maybe pick up all fishing rods from in the store from now on...I dunno

Just a PSA

In my opinion.. Academy has gone thru some changes and not for the good. I’m pretty much done with them. I’m mail ordering or hitting my local shops now. The customer service is [censored]. One cash register open and lines through the store. They don’t care. Plus the shelves are not stocked. It was my favorite store but not any more!

That is ABSOLUTELY complete lack of give a [censored] right there! I’d be calling, emailing, following up calls, and emails, till I was happy that the SOB that packaged that rod was fired and I have a pristine Dobyns in my hands.

Ignorant [censored] people. mad

I have ordered rods online before….every time I have, they were delivered in an 8ft PVC pipe, wrapped in bubble wrap inside and padding in the excess length of tube. Never a scratch.

Who could have EVER thought that half a box would be ok???

Somebody was not wanting to work over the holidays. That is a pure sign of frustration when packaging a rod for shipping.

That's the greatest display of not giving a sh#t. I'm sorry that you received this and have the pains to get through it.

Academy went south years ago when corporate america brought them out. The store in Waco spent a bucket of money to put in 20 check out and they only open two .

You have to post that picture on their Twitter and Social pages. That’s the only way these companies respond now. You have to publicly call them out.

That’s awful.
