want to see if anyone has some deep purple maribou or hackle feathers, and deep purple rayon chenille they would like to sell or swap for something I have... I have some interesting stuff.. I have squirrel tail from the siberian blue squirrel.. it is kind of hard to get and unique in its properties.,., it has alot of undulation and pulsing in the water... the tails are natural black or red.. the red tails are alot less common than the black tails... I think it may be a genetic anomoly, like albino squirrels... mepps uses alot of squirrel tail hair on thier jigs, and have for a long time due to the way the hair endulates/pulses in the water, they figured this out a long time ago... its like nothing else.. maribou doesnt even come close.. mepps uses either the common gray or red squirrel hair from north america, because the rare siberian squirrel tail is too expensive and hard to get... especially now. I had a contact in florida, who got them from siberia, and he could only get a few a year.. Then that ran dry. ive seen tail that have been dyed black for sale on a few sites, but they are not the siberian blue squirrel tails.. once you hold a real siberian tail in your hand, you can tell the difference right away. the hairs also tend to be longer.. and much softer.. a pleasure to tie . if viewed under a micro scope, squirrel hair has these tiny barbs on the end of the hair, that causes them to splay outward when moved thru the water...very interesting..
if nobody has deep purple maribou or hackle, or chenille can you recommend a dye that I can use to die my squirrel hair deep purple? thank ye !
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !
