Made it here today at my place at 4:50. Grabbed two already set up poles, one with a 3oz spoon and a deadstick setup. Got on the water by :55 and headed to a spot that’s been really good to me that I barely have to push the big motor more than 30 seconds to get to. Marked all kinds of fish deep but they disappeared as I got closer in. I looked up at the sun drenched opposite shore and saw birds circling. As I’ve also done well there before I motored over and the screen was covered. Loons were there which I’ve discovered are vital to successful fishing here. I decided to go with my spoon to see what would happen. I reeled and dropped over 15 cranks at a time pretty slowly. I wore them out until 5:50 when I quit and averaged about 1 fish every two minutes. Biggest fish was on first cast.

Were you fishing just south of Bridgeview, north of the 70 bridge?

Little Mineral seems to always hold a lot of fish; it’s just whether they are active or not. Guess that is the case for any area of the lake. Guess that’s why I always end up burning a tank of gas… bang

Paul, I am just learning the lake, but it seems to me that little mineral almost always holds fish

Were the gulls harassing the Loons or on bait struggling from tail slapping game fish ?

Many times this time of the year as the Gray/Laughing Gulls arrive on our N TX lakes they chase other species of Birds. The Loons are present in an effort to find bait in an effort to stay alive. When loons surface they may have bait "shad " in their beaks and this is what the Gulls are after, food. So, when one observes circling Gulls, check out the source. Are they harassing Loons, Cormorants , mud turkeys or are they feeding on tail slapped bait via aggressive sand bass or box stripers!!

Ah I see. Loons were observed with bait in their mouths but the gulls weren’t bothering them, they were bombing the water. The areas I’ve found fish had plenty of other herons and egrets but no cormorants. I’ve only observed them on the tires
