Anyone ever used salted bait. Its easy to make and lasts forever without freezing. I'm thinking about shrimp and maybe even chicken breast or chicken livers cured in canning salt with garlic powder and koolaide. It makes the bait kind of rubbery so it doesnt come off the hook easily, but puts out a lot of flavor scent.

The fish with high blood pressure aren’t going to eat it

Good friend of ours catches chubs up here when he can, before ice, and salts them and freezes them I believe.
He uses them for ice fishing , we'll find out more as he is taking us out some time this winter.
This is for mainly walleye but yellow perch and a few catfish also through the ice.

Used brown sugar and salt in blood baits also back in Texas, for catfishing.

We have used jackrabbit saturated in garlic salt and anise oil with great success when my aunt and uncle lived in west Texas and we fished Lake Balmorhea . We caught more channel cat than I ever could have imagined .
