Hey, Risto-
Just got back last night. It was tough for us, but we also were staying at Rancho de Pistola up the Rio Grande. Plenty of great water to fish, but they just had too many places to hide.
The water starts clearing once the lake opens up from the Rio, but it's pretty much chocolate milk from the high bridge down to the opening.
Plenty of fish were caught, but very few with any size. Amistad Man is right, I finally started getting stomped punching the grass in secondary drains. You had to cover some water to get bit, but once you did, it was like a stick of dynamite going off in your hand. I learned a valuable lesson this weekend...invest in a scrape rod.
Topwater was hit or miss, but the ones that hit acted like it was their last meal.
PM me if you want some specifics, Risto.

O K....
I'm stupid, What's a "scrape" rod?
We're going to Amistad later.

A pool cue with eyelets! It's an x-heavy grass rod. I think Waterloo markets their x-heavy grass rod as a scrape rod. I've had plenty of success punching deep amistad grass with an old Allstar Classic CRC. The rod weighs a ton, but it will get the fish out for under $100.

Its made by waterloo. Very light, sensitive and enough backbone to scrape fish out of that amistad grass all day.

Let me just say this. When I had one pop me this past weekend, I wish I had my offshore rod in my hand. I'm not 100% convinced the Scrape Rod woulda come through unscathed.
Aggie Angler sounds like he's got an "oldie but a goodie". Back when Castaway first came out with the East Texas Grass Rake, I thought there was no need for something that stiff. It would've snapped this weekend...not a doubt in my mind.
Waterloo's aren't snap-proof, either, but you'd literally have to be winching a double-digit out of 5 ft of grass to make it happen.
I might stick to my offshore rod, but after dropping all day long, fatigue may push me into a scrape rod.

Jesus said, GO FISHING He said nothing about painting the fence, bathing the dogs, washing the dishes, mowing the yard, cleaning out your truck, cleaning the house, fixing the sink, or watering the yard. LUKE 5:4
