What is about fire ants and stumps. I have cut several dying or dead trees down to the ground. It seems that the fire ants take over the stump and after a year, the stump is usually or almost just mush or powder. I guess they live off of anything

This is a fact.
I kick it up a notch and pour my bacon grease or any other kind of grease over the stump.
The ants love it and as you said.
They will take out a stump.
