What we run into is insurance companies don't pay for the detach and reset unless the homeowner owns them outright. Typically, it's a lease, so they want the solar company to pay to take them off, and usually after a few years, that company has been sold, and there's a new contract with a new company and it conveniently leaves that part up to the homeowner. About $275/panel is what we pay to take off, store, and re-install, it adds up fast.

If someone is using a nail gun to mount panels to a roof they are doing it very wrong.

Long bolt screws into the rafters/beams with flashing mounts.

What I see the idiot installers doing are removing roof vents or cutting them and putting the roof vents down under the solar panels, basically making them not work

You didn't make your case. we have had several hail events in fort worth that could do that kind of damage. what I said was true and is the reason I won't get them. They also don't last forever. not worth the investment. you started the argument. deal with it.

ps I've worked construction several times in my life.

I had a patel guy who had his whole roof covered with Solar panels, we needed to get to the CSST gas lines that the either roofer or solar installer had jacked up and hit.

It was last year and winter time, we went up with SawZalls and removed about 30% of the solar panels to access the roof line and make repairs. Threw them solar panels on the ground like a empty coke can.

Hard pass from this guy on ever getting solar panels.

Yes, there are reputable installers and then there are roofers masquerading as "professional" installers.
Signature Solar in Sulphur Springs would have good recommendations.

It's not hard to find the rafters (soft rubber mallet technique +/- stud finder). Cutting or removing vents is not protocol.
Or just do it yourself---Ground mount if you can--that is ridiculously easy.
Or mount on top of pergola
Or mount on roof (degree of difficulty would correlate to roof pitch/degree of slope---some Texas roofs are severely pitched)

Modern solar panels are far more hail resistant than motor vehicle windows and roof shingles.
