Going to die or not? Pecan tree at my deer lease dropped all the leaves about 3 weeks ago or more. It did ok last year but not looking good this year. confused 3

I've had trees drop their leaves and go dormant in a particularly hot dry summer. Go bend one of the smaller branches as if you were going to break it in half. If it bends and springs back into shape I'd say it will come back just fine with some regular rain.

It would be a shame to lose that big of a pecan tree. Good luck.

Doesn’t look too good for the tree, but it seems that normally when they die, they retain the dead brown leaves. I’ve seen plenty of that this year. So, maybe it just went dormant. Hate to lose a pecan tree.

The place beside us has a big pasture with 2 trees the same size or bigger and they are the same way.

I have a smaller tree, but as soon as I noticed it was starting to drop leaves this summer I started watering it more and it stopped dropping them.

During extremely dry weather trees will lose leaves as a defense. Leaves suck up a lot of water to stay green. I have 2 large pecans that are dropping a lot of leaves and have been for a couple of weeks. 2 smaller ones have dropped leaves on lower limbs.
