My sister has this app on her phone and when I was visiting her in Arkansas during Labor day weekend she showed it to me. The app identified 12 different birds in about 20 minutes while we were drinking morning coffee on the back porch. We thought we only saw about 6-7 different types during that time. Cool app. It is amazing how often I hear them, and the app catches them, but I cannot spot the bird for my life... even though I know what tree its in. My bird mentor told me it takes practice and you will get better at picking them out visually. There are a lot of backyard birds that don’t come to feeders & it’s always a surprise to see what Merlin app hears and then try to find them . Not sure how ethical it is but you can play bird calls and some birds are very responsive , I once had a painted bunting come in & try to start a fight 🤣

Brother I had this Crow so fired playing calls at him... well he was about to fight me. I could see him thinking through what was going on and eventually he seemed to realize it was a trick and flew off in shame.
