It is amazing how often I hear them, and the app catches them, but I cannot spot the bird for my life... even though I know what tree its in.

My bird mentor told me it takes practice and you will get better at picking them out visually.


There are a lot of backyard birds that don’t come to feeders & it’s always a surprise to see what Merlin app hears and then try to find them .
Not sure how ethical it is but you can play bird calls and some birds are very responsive , I once had a painted bunting come in & try to start a fight 🤣

That is right!

Brother I had this Crow so fired playing calls at him... well he was about to fight me. I could see him thinking through what was going on and eventually he seemed to realize it was a trick and flew off in shame.
