What are you guys using for a deep jerkbait setup? Specifically what rod? The standard jerkbait rods seem to be a little short to get the casting distance needed to hit depth. The longer rods seem to be a bit to stiff to get the best action and hookup ratio. Just can't seem to find a rod I like.

What is your current setup? I've noticed that how you work it seems to have more impact over which set up I use. I have noticed with livescope and more recently in a lake that had about 15' visibility.

I have a custom rod built on a NFC X-Ray "IS 703-1". Carbon fiber reel seat and grips with recoil guides. I absolutely love this rod. It's primary purpose is my trout/reds popping rod but it doubles as deep jerkbait rod.

I'm currently using a custom 6'8" rod that was made specifically for use with 110 style of jerkbaits. I had it built to replicate the Megabass 110 special rod, since I couldn't afford the real thing. AHAHHAAHA

I use an old GLX 783c. Been itching to get a megabass 110 special but don't see the need.

I throw mine on an old NRX 852. Keep your GLX 783. It don't get no better than that bro.

I've bought several megabass rods in the past and ended up selling them. Just wasn't impressed with them compared to my GLoomis lineup.

No offense to MP. There is no substitute for the upper end Loomis's

The Loomis NRX is the most sensitive rod I have ever used but why do you think you need one if you are throwing a bait that gets a reaction bite? The NRX has the best sensitivity when you are fishing baits where it is important to feel the slightest bite. I agree, it is #1 for that.

Not all my rods are NRX’s, although I do use a few for moving baits. Also have a but load of GLX and IMX Pros that I use for moving baits as well. Also it’s not a knock on MagaBass. All the ones I had were for moving baits. Just didn’t get the satisfaction out of them that I was looking for. Same goes for Dobyns.

Its not even about the sensitivity. I have an older split grip NRX with a shorter grip plus it is 6' 8" and it is just right for me to snap the rod tip downward. Its a personal preference thing.

I'm currently using the Falcon Expert jerkbait rod. I like that rod for the normal 110 size jerkbaits. I just have not had great luck with it on the deeper jerkbaits. Lose alot of fish and would like a little longer rod to try and get a little more distance. I'm a short guy though so anything over 6'11" is probably to long for me. I was just curious what others were using. I'm gonna keep playing with the setup.

When did you have this rod made? I could’ve sworn they just announced their inshore blanks. Looking at ordering a few, how well do you feel it would handle soft plastics in the 1/16-1/4 size?

$40 Ugly Stick Lite from Wal-Mart is the only jerkbait rod you will ever need.

I throw a jerkbait a lot.

I can feel them grab the lure during a pause on slack line with that rod.

I also use it to throw small topwaters like poppers and prop baits.

I have one rigged with mono for small topwaters and 1 with 12 lb fluoro for jerkbaits.

I've bought more expensive jerkbait rods, and IMO, the Ugly Stick Lite is every bit as good or better.
