New bait out of the box this weekend

Saw two monster fish beating up about a 12” gizzard Shad Got close enough to make a good cast and it was on
And then
Poof just like that cost us 3k in a tournament

Looks like it’s time to change out the split tings on all my Evergreen baits….

Looks like he twisted the hook right off.

I wouldn't consider the split ring bad. They all will twist apart. I believe that's a once in life situation. A perfect barrel roll.

Ugh that hurts! Had it happen to me once at Monticello on a Bomber 7A and once at Fork on a Rattletrap! Both times saw the fish and it was a heartbreaker.

I’ve done it too, but it was a big ol gar. I tried to rip the bait away, but the second set of trebles held on REALLY good.

That used to be a problem with traps, back in the 80s & early 90s. In mid January 1993,on Rayburn , my fishing partner and myself, fished down, about a 75yd. inside grass line about 6' deep. we had 6 bites throwing traps, and that was the result, on 5 of them. The other bite we easily landed one about 8 lbs. A month later I caught a 12.6, and both rings were about to come apart then. If the fish hadn't already spawned, or had just 1 more run in her, I don't believe I would have landed her.
