I've fished Purtis Creek for several years and this is the biggest one I've ever seen. Caught him fly fishing on a Betts top water fly. Fish was released once the picture was taken.

Some people call them "shell crackers".

I have fished Purtis a bunch but I never got one near that big there. I have on Athens but not Purtis. That is a beauty.

Great Fish!!! I've read a lot about Purtis creek. Most of what I've read is how great it was before they killed the vegetation. Has it started to recover?

It’s been better this year than the last few. I’ve been after a 10” gill forever, this year we’ve caught 5 so far. We’re still catching good size fish and typically we’ll catch 20 or so keepers each trip. There’s still no vegitation in the lake but the fishing seems to be better this year for sure.
