My wife did that on our stove years ago, literally burned water until the pot was dry and the pan scorched

Yes, Actually I'm Cleaning a dutch oven that I got from an Uncle "Charlie" that had years of grease and grim and neglect on it. From Cowboy Kent Rollins the easiest way to clean cast iron in this bad of shape is to put it in a fire and burn it.. And then re season... And it worked like a champ.
