Do these safety straps work . The concept looks like it would work.

It has to be better than nothing. I know mine appears to be extremely stout, the hardware is top notch.

Doubt it would hurt. Looks like it should work depending on where the motor breaks loose.

Why is it 300 bucks? I wish someone would make a similar product and cut the price down. Iโ€™m a capitalist but that seems like a lot of money for not much.

I think itโ€™s the rope stuff that costs a lot. Itโ€™s similar to synthetic winch rope. Also, there is the hardware and brackets. And capitalism. I have paid more for less on boat related stuff.

Isn't everyone curious as to why every boat doesn't come with them when you buy it? Why not??? It's like a car with no seat belt.

Looking at the pic I am not sure the Leash would have prevented this outboard from coming into the boat. The clamping bracket broke off on the starboard side. I am all for the safety measures the Leash has to offer but it may not have helped in this case. Looks like a freak accident.

One of my friends hit a stump at Fork running barely on plane. He hit a stump and the motor clamping bracket broke and the motor came off the transom. Fortunately at the low speed the motor did not come up into the boat but it did separate from the jackplate. The motor was suspended off the transom by the steering cables.

Had he been going faster the motor may have kicked up and come into the boat without a device like the Leash. Hard to say.

One of my friends hit a stump at Fork running about 40 and the jackplate broke and the motor came off the back of his boat but not into the boat. That is not the first time I've heard of a jackplate breaking when the lower unit hit a stump.

In that case the Leash could have prevented the motor from entering the cockpit but in this recent case I am not sure it would have.

Both top bolts that the leash attaches to are still intact..
