If this was happening in California they would find an endangered 1 nutted toad and the entire sale would be stopped. Has anyone been catching any Guadalupe bass out of there recently?

Once they sell it they'll kill all the grass for the boat docks. Lake will never be the same even for the ones that get a lot. Lot of damn trees in that lake too. Whole big arm off to the right is pretty iffy if you don't know where you're going. Cove across from the ramp isn't very deep. I can't see how this lake will be worth a damn as a pleasure boat lake. Just makes no sense.

Until it closes nothing is finalized gentleman. Can you imagine paying a million dollars per acre in Fairfield Tx on land that has coal ash ? Lawsuits galore. Can't imagine people would buy if they knew the landscaping history., isn't there some kind of epa regulations? Something smells real fishy about this whole deal. Makes no sense at all and would destroy Fairfield with lack of revenue and higher taxes. Say a prayer for Fairfield 🙠that it doesn't close.

can't the state just use eminent domain? I do not know a whole lot about eminent domain, but could the state still buy it with using eminent domain?

Is it within the states power? Yes. Will 2/3 of our legislature agree to pass an eminent domain bill? Doubtful. There is probably a better chance of some executive from Todd getting a visit from the ghost of Christmas past and changing his mind.

However, HB 2332 was filled tonight by Rep Angelia Orr to acquire the land by eminent domain. HB 2332

Chances are slimmer than ever but it appears it's not quite over yet.

They use eminent domain to take away people's land away and not to take away businesses land away to give to the people to use, unfortunately. Plus the politicians need a new place for a second or third home.

Hate to see this happen, but the state dropped the ball on this one plain and simple.

I think some of you are underestimating the power of this HB and the State is very serious about retaining the park.

https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/88R/billtext/pdf/HB02332I.pdf#navpanes=0

Read this section of text alone:

The legislature finds that:
(1) in the year of the centennial celebration of Texas State Parks, the state has a vested interest in preserving and protecting state parks operated by Parks and Wildlife Department;
(2) the state of Texas and the Parks and Wildlife Department have invested over $70 million in the development and operation of Fairfield Lake State Park.
(b) the department has the power of eminent domain to acquire in the manner provided by Chapter 21, Property Code, any property necessary to preserve Fairfield Lake State Park, and to carry out the purposes of this section, including the acquisition of approximately 1,821.353 acres and the adjoining acres associated with that property.

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2023.

Wow, I didn't realize the state had dumped 70 million into the park. Taxpayers everywhere should be up in arms about this. The state has a 20B surplus, I'm glad to see they are putting up a fight.

I seriously doubt the state gets anything done.

I just Facebook messaged Angelia Orr. I thanked her for putting HB 2332 forward and asked if there was anything we could do to help. She responded immediately and thanked me for thanking her, and said she would "keep us updated." I don't know the lady from Adam, but great that she responded so quickly.

*Edit: If you go to Texas Parks and Wildlife's Facebook page, they have a post on Fairfield. That post contains several "quotes" from various senators and state representatives. If you click on their names in the post it takes you to their page and it's pretty straightforward to e-mail or message them. I sent something to all of them.

I don't know you at all except you that you hate people that leave their headlights on when backing down the boat ramp (as do I), but I would be willing to make a wager with you something happens on the park itself if not more. The state is only interested in the park but who knows where it leads on the rest of it because I can't see the Todd group buying it without all of that land included. Beaver Alpin, David Yoskowitz and many other higher ups in the state are very serious about this effort. Heck, my next step is trying to get some similar coverage for another Luminant lake property I have been working on for nearly 3 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if the state is able to save it using eminent domain
