My son really wants to target catfish this year from our boat so I told him we could try a few times. I've been tempted to hire a guide, but my son gets a little antsy being young after a short period of time so I like having the option of going in or switching to fishing for something else if needed. We have a place near the Cross, west of Caney Creek ......

Do you think we would do ok with cut up shad, anchored out halfway back in those creeks.... Or are there some other general areas we should try first. like some flats with deeper water nearby I keep reading about.

He really wants to catch some blue cats, but I told him we need will be happy with anything until we figure the lake out.

I feel like we have bought most of the right gear after being on this forum for so long, and reading as many post as possible, but I have never targeted catfish and will take any pointers or advice.

Thanks

Mainlake points fish in water 12-20 feet deep for Blues. A live 4-6 inch perch fished at half depth especially at night might just be the ticket for a big one.

This time of year, I would try way west. Past the 377 bridge and up in the shallows at the mouth of the river. My first 50 plus fish ever came from up there in February. Gotta be careful, real stumpy up there. Cut gizzard shad is the ticket...
