Sight fishing is my favorite way to fish for bass so looking to take some time off work this spring & had a couple questions....

1) Would you suggest taking a few days around the March Full Moon or April Full Moon? (obviously weather conditions could play a factor but just in general, which would be best for sight fishing?)
2) What TX lakes would you recommend for sight fishing given your answer to question #1?

Appreciate any feedback!

I always say April.
Seems the last "several" years, we have been dealt some serious roller coater weather in March. That most times delays spawn a bit. Normally by April, the weather is more stable and beds are easier to see and fish.

Considering the weather is a big question mark it's hard to say

I start keeping my eyes open and check for them about the middle of February especially if the afternoons are warm or we have had a couple of days of warm weather. I have found bed fish just after the first week into second week of February on Fork.

I've seen them roaming and locking down here as early as mid-February. That's when I usually start to focus on looking for beds.

I caught an 8.11 off a bed January 1st last year. Haven't seen any beds yet this year. Last year early February there were beds EVERYWHERE down here

I just go when the conditions are right, hard to predict the spawn and weather together. Good luck!

I would check OH Ivie, lots of big ones there

I agree for zone 7-8. Also, try some lakes that people don’t sight fish very much but have just barely enough clarity.
I’m with you though op-I’m ready to sight fish! The original livescope!

These two guys would know.

I've done my fair share of looking attum too. Full moon in March can be lights out for the spawn if the water temp lines up. This year's March full moon is early on the 7th. If we have any kind of winter in mid to late Feb water temps could be a little cold for the first big wave on the 7th.

I like the last 2 weeks in March personally for most of NETX. If it is a pressured lake like Fork or Ivie, by April the fish have been beat on pretty hard and skittish. I believe if a big fish feels too much pressure they will dump their eggs and move on. I have always maintained there are fish that live offshore all their lives and never come to the bank even to spawn.

The last time Fork was 7 feet low I saw a giant bass cruising around the cross members of the 515 bridge. I could not get her to bite but she was a GIANT and I believe she spawned there every year regardless of the water depth on the cross members.

I witnessed about a 2.5lb male and what looked like a 7lb+ female spawning on a foam float under a boat house it about 15 feet of water. There was around 2' of foam sticking out off the end of the walkway between two slips. Trolled by and they were both on top of it rolling. Couldn't have been more that 2' below the surface.

Start at Falcon in January. Amistad, Choke, Rayburn, Conroe, Toledo in Feb. Fork in March, Ray Roberts and Grand Lake, Ok in April. Sight fishing always depends on lake clarity.

I”m speaking about Fork specifically but also feel that there are giants that live out in the deep water by the dam to avoid the pressure that feast on crappie and barfish and shad their entire lives now. They move up to spawn and then back out to the deep end.

I need to concentrate more on finding those fish.

A bit off topic but I had a post a month or so back asking for some advice.

I will be traveling from Austin back to my home in Kansas the second week of March

I have 7 days to fish my way home and looking for advice on a list of lakes to fish on my way.

Thinking the Nacogdoches Area, Toledo Bend, and Fork.

Without Livescope, I am a pitcher and flipper mostly.

Sight fishing obviously should be in full swing but looking for any option to find smaller lakes with opportunities of numbers and/or bigguns

Knowing there are no promises, does anyone have any thoughts on how they may go about this?

I am
Getting ready to book some hotels and would appreciate any help you can

Thanks
